Boys Varsity Football · Coach’s Corner Game Week 4

On Saturday morning (9/12), Coach Gilbert sat down with Ken Hartman to discuss the upcoming game.

Inside the Huddle

After spending 2 weeks unable to practice or play the Clinton Central Bulldog football team was back in action this week.  It all started with our Junior High opening their season with a decisive victory on Thursday night.  The coaches and players did an outstanding job in preparation and were able to beat County Rival Clinton Prairie to start their playing season off with a win.  Congrats to players and coaches meeting the challenges of adversity and responding with outstanding leadership and team play.  Good luck in Week 5!  The junior high set the stage as the varsity would welcome Class A ranked #13 and 3-0 Frontier to Bulldog Field for a 6 pm start on Saturday night.

A great crowd showed up and the boys [who have only worked back this week together were facing an outstanding undefeated team in the Frontier Falcons.  The Falcons are well coached and have a group of outstanding skilled players led by their All-State running back.  The started out rough for the Bulldogs as the Falcons went to work and systematically moved the ball down the field and scored on their first possession.  The Bulldog players were not going to be denied on their field and quickly countered by scoring on their first drive.  At this point the game became very physical as Coach Kennedy and Coach Atkins-Harris instructed the boys and their began to tackle lower and harder and the Falcons would continue to score but their was a physical cost each time they possessed the ball.  Coach Boswell and the offense continued to score but hit a hard stretch in the third quarter and it looked as if the Bulldogs were losing momentum but several key outstanding plays by the Bulldogs set up a situation where the Falcons fumbled inside the 20 with 3 minutes left in the game and the Bulldog offense was able to gain a key first down and run the clock out.

Key Performances:

Special Teams:  Jacob Hall [Punter]; Keegan Burnette recovery of onside kick; Tyler Rayl [kicker]; Daiden Taulbee [returner]; host of players tackling and playing physical.

Offense:  Owen Smith [QB] outstanding performance passing and running the offense, great leadership; Anthony Ransford [RB] another great performance scoring 4 times and over 150 yards rushing; Matthew Harker [RB] great effort getting first downs; Logan Harris [TE] 2 great catches with one TD reception; Receiving Corps of Keegan Burnette, Jacob Hall, Zander Hall all did an outstanding job blocking opening up huge holes for backs.

Offensive Line!!!!!!! These guys played outstanding and made the difference in the victory!  Tyler Rayl, Brandon Premeaux, Cael Albaugh, Hunter Salem, Riston Quick!  These 5 young men played outstanding and showed great character by never giving up!  Contrats!!!

Defensively, every player performed at a high level.  We worked all week on tackling low since Frontier’s backfield was actually bigger than most of our team.  Our boys executed the game plan effectively, stayed focused, made some errors but never lost sight of their objective and by not loosing hear were able to save the game and give us an opportunity to win.  Leaders defensively were Zander Hall [Safety] who played an outstanding game; Hunter Salem led the team in tackles from his DL position and played perhaps his best game in his high school career; Owen Smith and Matthew Harker played solid at OLB; while Jacob Hall and Daiden Taulbee performed well at CB; Both broke up key plays during the game; Tyler Rayl at MLB along with Ethan Walker performed well and kept the pressure on the offense from their linebacker position, Riston Quick and Brandon Premeaux also did a great job up front.  Riston has become a team leader and is getting better each week.

A great crowd was in attendance for both schools as this was an exciting high school football game.  Next week is Homecoming week at Central and the Taylor Titans will be coming to Bulldog Field for a 7 pm start on Friday.  CC football is exciting and the players are focused!  Come join the excitement and tradition of Bulldog Football next Friday as the Bulldogs work toward staying undefeated!
